Strengthening Leadership in Government Health
INDUSTRY: Healthcare
With increasing demands on the government health sector and evolving priorities, leadership teams are facing critical challenges that require a unified leadership vision.
A government health leadership team was looking to connect and team-build before the end of the year. The team engaged Interchange to facilitate realignment of their purpose, strategy and culture.
After a discovery conversation, Interchange found that the leaders needed a structured yet engaging approach to recalibrate, collaborate, and strengthen their collective impact.
The Solution
The key to driving behavioural change lies in emotional connection.
When people experience moments of joy, curiosity, challenge, or even just a bit of fun, those moments stick. As part of an ‘Interchange Escapes’ day we harness that emotional connection to spark reflection, alignment, and lasting change.
‘Interchange Escapes’ is a purpose-led experience designed to unlock leadership potential. By blending strategic reflection with immersive challenges, this full-day workshop, facilitated by our culture experts, offers practical, actionable insights into team performance, alignment and shared leadership vision.
The workshop included:
Team-building activities
Expert facilitated purpose, strategy and culture discussions
Role clarity
To break from routine and create space for meaningful transformation, the government health leadership team recently took part in a full day ‘Interchange Escapes’ offsite. The experience was designed to strengthen alignment, clarify roles and enhance overall leadership effectiveness.
The day began with a deep dive into the team’s core purpose – why do they exist as a team?Through open, honest discussion, they explored their collective “why” and how it connects to the broader organisational purpose. From there, the team articulated what they aim to achieve together, ensuring that their goals were truly aligned with their purpose.
This naturally evolved into a strategic conversation – what success looks like, how it should be measured, and how the team feels about their current direction. By grounding the strategy in shared purpose, the team began to shape a clearer, more cohesive path forward.

True to its name, ‘Interchange Escapes’ is about stepping out of the everyday and into a space designed for growth. The rest of the morning took place in an escape room, where the team faced playful but challenging tasks designed to test collaboration, problem-solving, and role clarity under pressure. While the team navigated these puzzles, our expert facilitators observed their interactions, gathering valuable insights into their dynamics and decision-making styles.
In the afternoon, the group returned to our Collingwood office to reflect on the escape room experience. They debriefed what they learned about themselves and each other, sparking a deeper conversation about team culture.
Together, they identified key areas for improvement and created a shared action plan. Each person committed to owning a specific aspect of cultural development, reinforcing accountability and shared responsibility.
The final session of the day focused on role clarity. Using creative and interactive methods, each participant shared the current understanding of their role, the tasks they own and where they need greater clarity. The rest of the team then considered how they might support one another in refining and strengthening role alignment.
The Outcome:
Following the offsite, the leadership team reported:
Improved Team Cohesion:
Strengthened relationships and a renewed sense of trust among team members.
Greater Strategic Alignment:
Clearer understanding of individual and collective roles in achieving organisational goals.
Enhanced Engagement and Productivity:
Leaders felt re-energised, equipped with practical strategies to foster engagement within their teams going into the new year and beyond.
Long-Term Leadership Impact:
The experience provided lasting insights and tools to drive cultural and strategic change within the department.
Step away to move forward.
